Reconditioning Services

Wooden cutting boards take a lot of abuse over time — knife marks, stains, warping, and rough surfaces. With proper reconditioning, most boards can be restored to near-new condition, extending their life for years.

What Reconditioning Includes

  • Sanding — multiple grits to remove knife marks, stains, and surface damage
  • Flattening — warped or cupped boards are brought back level where possible
  • Food-safe finish — conditioned with a premium food-safe oil and/or wax blend
  • Inspection — boards with structural damage (deep cracks, split joints) will be assessed and discussed before work begins

What Boards Can Be Reconditioned?

Most solid hardwood boards — edge grain, end grain, or flat grain — can be reconditioned. Boards with plastic, bamboo, composite materials, or those that have been glued and are separating at the joints may not be good candidates. When in doubt, send a photo and I’ll let you know.

Pricing

Reconditioning pricing is based on board size and the amount of work needed. As a general guide:

  • Small boards (under 12″) — starting from $25
  • Medium boards (12″–18″) — starting from $40
  • Large boards (18″+) — starting from $55
  • Heavy restoration (significant damage, deep gouges, warping) — quoted individually

Note: These are starting prices. A firm quote will be provided after I review photos of your board.

Turnaround Time

Most reconditioning jobs are completed within 3–7 business days of receiving the board. Rush turnaround may be available — just mention it in your message.

Drop-Off or Shipping

Local drop-off is available and preferred. If you’re not local, you can ship your board to me — contact me first for the shipping address and packaging tips to avoid damage in transit. Return shipping cost is covered by the customer.
